Who it's for

The default answer for most mainstream EV shoppers in 2026. Commuter, family hauler, road-trip car, Costco run — it does all of it reasonably well. America's best-selling EV for three years running for legitimate reasons.

What works

  • · Best charging network access in the country via Tesla Superchargers (now opened to most non-Tesla EVs but still works seamlessly on Tesla)
  • · Highway efficiency is class-leading — usually 250+ real-world miles per charge at highway speeds
  • · Software UX is still the best in the industry — OTA updates actually add features
  • · Resale value remains the strongest of any EV — even the 2023-24 depreciation reset stabilized faster than competitors

What doesn't

  • · Cabin materials still don't match Hyundai/Kia or German luxury at similar price points
  • · Tesla service experience varies wildly — appointment availability and parts inventory both lag traditional automakers
  • · No Apple CarPlay or Android Auto (Tesla's deliberate choice)
  • · Ride quality is firm bordering on harsh on rough roads — the Hyundai/Kia E-GMP platform smooths bumps better

Context

Now in its second-generation refresh (the 'Juniper' update). The Long Range AWD remains the sweet-spot trim for most buyers — full Supercharger access, 320 mile range, dual motor traction. Performance trim adds speed but the ride quality penalty isn't worth it for most. Standard Range is rarely worth the discount vs. Long Range.
