Who it's for

F-150 buyers who want the truck they already know and trust, but in electric form. Best for owners who'll do mostly local hauling and use the truck's PowerBoost-equivalent (Pro Power Onboard) for jobsites or backup power.

What works

  • · Familiar F-150 cabin, ergonomics, and driving feel — the transition from a gas F-150 is seamless
  • · Pro Power Onboard (up to 9.6 kW) is a genuine differentiator — runs jobsite tools, powers your house in an outage, runs a tailgate party
  • · Wide dealer network and service expertise (gas F-150s have been around forever)
  • · Towing works for local hauling — short-distance towing under 5,000 lbs is fine

What doesn't

  • · Towing range is brutal — pulling a 6,500 lb trailer at highway speeds drops real-world range from 320 to 130–180 miles
  • · Cold-weather DC fast charging speeds are noticeably slower than warmer-climate sessions (battery heater can't fully recover before charge tapers)
  • · Frunk is large but the bed itself is shorter than gas F-150 due to battery packaging
  • · Premium trims push toward $80k+ where the value proposition gets harder

Context

Ford's biggest EV bet and the model Spencer (this site's founder) owns and writes from. The Extended Range battery is essentially mandatory — Standard Range is fine for commuting but the towing-range hit makes Extended Range the smart-money choice for actual truck use. Lariat trim hits the sweet spot of features vs price. The Platinum is gorgeous but luxury-truck pricing is silly for what's essentially still a work truck.
