Chevy Bolt EUV

Cheapest way into a roomy EV. Killer used market.

Starting price (MSRP)

EPA range

Body style
SUV / crossover
Budget tier
Under $35,000

Who it's for

Budget-conscious EV buyers who'll keep the car for 5+ years. Especially good for first-time EV buyers stepping up from Civic/Corolla territory.

What works

  • · Lowest-cost EV on sale in 2026 (used market makes this even more dramatic)
  • · 247-mile range is plenty for daily commuting and regional trips
  • · Reliable — the platform has been around long enough that all the bugs are known
  • · Battery recall (LG cell defect) was comprehensively addressed by GM — replacement batteries reset warranty

What doesn't

  • · Slow DC fast charging — peak rate is around 55 kW vs. 150-250 kW in newer EVs
  • · No fancy features, mediocre infotainment, basic interior materials
  • · Production ended at the end of 2024 — no new ones available except remaining inventory
  • · Towing not rated for any meaningful capacity

Context

The original mainstream affordable EV. Discontinued in 2024 but plentiful in inventory and especially on the used market. A 2022-23 Bolt EUV at $18-22k used is one of the best value EVs you can buy in 2026. GM has announced a next-gen Bolt for 2026-27 but pricing and availability are still TBD. For now, the existing Bolt remains a legitimate budget-EV option.
